Data Security Essentials for Everyone is an interactive eLearning project designed to help non-technical employees understand and apply essential data security practices in their daily work. Many organizations struggle to communicate security expectations clearly to employees without technical backgrounds. I designed this course to simplify complex concepts through scenario-based learning, clear visuals, and knowledge checks that allow learners to practice making safe decisions. This project demonstrates my ability to design effective compliance training that is engaging, practical, and learner-centered
The Problem I Was Solving
Many employees need to follow data security best practices, but traditional compliance training is often too technical, text-heavy, and difficult to apply in real situations.
Understanding the Learner
Audience: Non-technical employees
Constraints:
Limited prior knowledge
Low engagement with compliance training
Need for practical, everyday examples
Key insight:
Learners needed clarity and practice, not more definitions or jargon.
Instructional Strategy I Chose
I used scenario-based learning so learners could:
See realistic workplace situations
Practice identifying risks
Make decisions and receive feedback
This approach supports adult learning principles by focusing on relevance and application.
Development and Tools
Tool: Articulate Rise
I developed the course with:
Clear navigation and consistent layout
Interactive decision points
Immediate feedback to reinforce learning
The design balances engagement with usability so learners can focus on content, not navigation.
Learning Outcome
By the end of the module, learners can:
Recognize common data security risks
Apply basic security best practices in everyday work situations
Make more informed decisions when handling sensitive information
